The Lascaux Cavy
Lascaux is the setting of a complex of caves in southwestern France famous for its prehistoric cave paintings. The Lascaux Cavy is the earliest evidence that cave dwellers kept pets, no doubt to eat the yucky parts of roots and berries rather than throwing them about the cave.
